Meet Beck Tench: in her own words, a simplifier, illustrator, storyteller, and technologist. Gwyn and Barbara met Beck Tench at ILEAD USA. In fact, Beck has participated in every ILEAD USA since its inception. Inspired by Beck's creative energy and drive to understand overcoming fear and our perceptions what failure is, we asked her to be our keynote speaker for the second Library OnConference and she graciously accepted! You can learn more about Beck at becktench.com and watch a preview of her keynote below. Make sure to register for the conference which starts on April 16, 2015 at 1:00 PM CST. ![]() This year, we are so lucky to have a new face on our team. Claire McCully accepted our internship position last month, and has been doing an amazing job enhancing our social media presence and getting the word out about April 16th. We've enjoyed getting to know her, and thought you should meet her too! Tell us a little bit about yourself. I received my Masters in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2014. Before starting graduate school, I worked for several years as a bedding designer. When that industry started moving overseas, I began to look into new career options. I started working in customer service and began volunteering at the public library. Through these opportunities, I realized I wanted my new career to have a helping aspect. I see librarianship as a career where I can help others by being an information resource. What aspect of librarianship most excites you? I am very interested in library marketing and programming. With an increasing number of library services online, it is a challenge to reach community members who may no longer visit the library building. Libraries must market themselves in new ways to ensure the community knows all the services public libraries offer. I am excited to be a part of the Library OnConference team and gain more experience using social media as a marketing tool. Tell us one fun, interesting fact about you. I designed bedding for Seventeen Magazine, Hilary Duff, and Baby Phat. What is the best book you’ve read lately? I liked The Bees by Laline Paull with its unique twist on a dystopian story. Told from a bee’s perspective, it reveals the secrets of the bee world. What do you do in your free time? In my free time, I enjoy crafting, travel, yoga, watching movies, and listening to audiobooks. What do you hope to do in your library career? I enjoy helping public library patrons and would love to work with readers’ advisory, programming, and marketing. I plan to continue to help spread the word that today’s libraries are important community resources that offer much more than books. Claire, we wish all the best, and thank you for donating your time and talent to Library OnConference. |
